206 Scenic Byway Associaton Meeting, August 8, 2000
Masonville BOCES
White House. Present, Helen Hernandez, President, Ken Schrider, Treasurer,
George M. Sands,
Janice O=Shea, Robert Terry, Directors. Joseph Hanley,
Chm. Delaware Co. Board of Supervisors.
1. Since the Secretary was
not present and no Minutes were available, the reading of Minutes of the July
Meeting in Coventry was postponed till next meeting. Robert Terry agreed to
take notes on this meeting.
2. The Treasurer, Ken Schrider, reported and the Report was
approved.
3. Sign Committee. The ADelaware Co. Fair@
sign is up. The Contract has been signed and returned to Allees Sign Co. Helen has a check coming from Bainbridge for
$600. The want the sign in May for the Canoe Regatta with image of canoe. Robert and Ken are still working to get
Walton and Colchester to participate. Janice O=Shea will take it before Coventry=s
town board on the 9th. Roscoe won=t know
till September. Helen will work on Sidney Chamber and Vision 21. We also need
Whitney Point Business Association, organizations in Afton such as Sertoma,
& Unadilla Chamber if possible. Town and Village Boards can also be invited
to participate.
4. Greene: No report
Coventry : As noted above. They could promote the Museum &
Bluegrass onthe sign.
Colchester : As noted above
Bainbridge: As noted above
Walton: Walton Cof C has joined as a member. We are trying to
raise $50 a month from the 3
organizations.
Mt. Upton: Mr. Sands comments later.
Chenango Co. No
report. Mrs. Felton not present.
5. Fundraising strategies.
Mrs. Hernandez handed out
mission statements, membership applications and reasons for joining, Sample letter
to solicit for funds, as well as copies of the website info. Together with the
206 Guide these will make up our initial marketing packet.
It was suggested to send dues
bills to members. Also Ken Schrider
suggested a Corridor wide fund-raising day with different fundraising
activities in each town.
Joe Hanley suggested a
meeting of key County officials from along the Corridor, all four counties.
Assembly members= representatives, Sens. Bonacic and Libous..The
County is key in corridor development and funding. This is the time to ask for
funds. Purpose to get budgeted
for 2001 funds. It would be timely the 2nd week in Sept. Helen will
try to reserve Bob=s Diner and letters will be sent for a 1PM meeting,
date to be decided.
6. Mr. Sands reported on the
Heritage Trail, and that the headquarters is now in Bainbridge.
He explained how Route 206 is
a key link in the AHeritage Trail@
for both black and non-black historical tourism. Mr. Sands also emphasized the
importance of agri-tourism and products and the web site AGreat Things are Made Locally.@ Even if all the plans to bring in as many gov=t
representatives as possible
doesn=t work out, he wants to see us continue Amoving down the road.@
6. Mrs. Hernandez will
propose a column in Tri-Town and Star, and Robert Terry will be sending out
press releases about 206 Association matters.
