| Coming down from the Bear Spring Mountain area, I enjoyed this beautiful
vista looking at the outskirts of the village of Walton. Walton History: Organized in the same year as Delaware County-- 1797. Many European settlers came from Connecticut and made their way here as early as 1784. First industries were lumbering. Pine and hemlock logs were being rafted down the Delaware to the cities. |

| Saw mills, grist mills tanneries were also erected during the
first few years of settlement. Fulling and carding mills manufacturered wool.
There were almost 5000 sheep recorded in the 1835 census. Woodworking plants
followed in the later half of the 19th century, including a piano factory early 20th
century. Stone quarries, dairy farms gained importance throughout the 19th century
